Jim Dietrich
Jim, Masters Assistant Coach
Jim Dietrich started swimming competitively at age 7, in the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) during the summers, and United States Swimming year-round with Curl-Burke, and then Robinson High School in Fairfax, VA, reaching the State finals in Breaststroke.
Jim graduated from George Mason University in 1995, and left Fairfax to journey out to CA. After 19 years of being away from the pool, it was September 2008, just following the Olympics, that Jim joined Nova Masters. During his first season, Jim placed 10th in the 100 Breast at the United States Masters Swimming Nationals in 2009.
While teaching proper swimming technique to those learning the strokes, Jim also enjoys motivating and training the most competitive Masters swimmers in the Country. He is working on his own endurance for practices, especially for “Big Wednesdays,” but pretty much sticks to the shorter sprints at the meets.
I was out of the water for 19 years. Inspired by the Olympics I found myself back in, competing it and loving it. The Nova Masters's coaches are great. They are knowledgeable and supporting. I'm almost as fast as high-school - but not college. ;)
